Call For Submissions To Citizens’ Assembly On The Issue Of Fixed Term Parliaments
Monday, January 8th 2018: The Citizens’ Assembly (the Assembly) is today calling for submissions on the fifth and final topic it is tasked with considering ‘Fixed Term Parliaments.’ The Assembly will meet on the 3rd and 4th of March 2018 to consider this topic and make recommendations to the Oireachtas. Submissions from members of the public, organisations and representative groups are now being sought by the Assembly. Submissions can be made online or by post up until the deadline of 12pm on February 23rd 2018.
The submissions will assist in formulating the work programme for the meeting of the Assembly members in March. The considerations of the members and their conclusions and recommendations will then form the basis of a report to be submitted to the Houses of the Oireachtas for further debate.
Chair of the Assembly the Honourable Ms Mary Laffoy said “the members of the Assembly are now nearing the end of their work. They will gather in March to consider and make recommendations on the issue of ‘Fixed Term Parliaments’. Between now and then we will develop the work programme and submissions on the topic are very valuable. I would now encourage any citizen, interested group or organisation with a view on this issue to make a submission.
“The engagement of the public in each of the submissions processes to date has been a very important part of the Assembly’s engagement with the wider public. In total, across the four topics considered by the Assembly to date, in excess of 14,000 submissions have been received. I hope that this level of engagement continues for our final consideration.”
Submissions can be made online or by post to Citizens’ Assembly, 16 Parnell Square, Dublin 1, to arrive no later than 12pm on February 23rd 2018. All documents received by the Assembly secretariat may be listed on the website, in order of date received and displayed with a name/name of organisation, and the title of the submission.
